Kazakhstan Ministry of Agriculture Investigates Onion Export to Georgia and Azerbaijan
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan is currently examining the possibility of exporting onions to Georgia and Azerbaijan, according to a statement by Minister Aidarbek Saparov.
Saparov noted a global decrease in onion prices, resulting in a decline in exports worldwide. In previous years, Kazakhstan exported 180 thousand tons of onions annually. However, this year, exports have decreased to 117 thousand tons, marking a significant decline of 70 thousand tons.
The minister attributed this decrease in exports to the global decline in onion prices. Despite the challenges, Kazakhstan aims to export 160 thousand tons of onions to Georgia and Azerbaijan, with contracts already in place. Saparov emphasized ongoing efforts to address logistics challenges, with collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Trade, and Ministry of Transport to facilitate the export process.
Saparov also highlighted changes in agricultural planning, with the ministry now providing guidelines to regional authorities on onion cultivation targets, following instructions from the Prime Minister. This strategic approach aims to optimize agricultural production and export planning in Kazakhstan.
