Kazakhstan Leads Central Asia in Reducing CO2 Emissions in Aviation
Kazakhstan has adopted a National Plan to reduce CO2 emissions in the aviation sector, becoming the first country in Central Asia to support the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) global climate initiative.
According to the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, the plan aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to combat climate change and aims to significantly reduce the aviation sector’s environmental impact.
The National Plan introduces several key measures, including improving airport infrastructure with energy-efficient technologies, transitioning the aviation sector to sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), and enacting legislative amendments to support ICAO’s carbon offset programs.
This initiative underscores Kazakhstan’s commitment to upholding international climate agreements and promoting sustainable development.
The plan will be implemented with active participation from all stakeholders, including civil aviation industry representatives. Progress will be continuously monitored to adjust measures and enhance effectiveness.
