Kazakhstan Joins OTS Agricultural Ministers’ Council to Boost Organic Farming Cooperation

Kazakhstan participated in the 4th Council of Ministers of Agriculture of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), held in Kyrgyzstan. The Kazakh delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Baglan Bekbauov.

The council focused on enhancing agricultural cooperation, with a particular emphasis on organic farming — a sector Kazakhstan views as vital for environmental, economic, and food security resilience.

Bekbauov highlighted the country’s progress: over 300,000 hectares have been certified for organic farming as of 2024, and key exports include wheat, lentils, chickpeas, and oilseeds destined for Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Kazakhstan has passed legislation on organic production, introduced a Participatory Guarantee System (PGS), and is implementing a 2024–2025 development roadmap. A regional agro-technopark is also being launched with EU certification underway.

Kazakhstan expressed readiness to deepen cooperation within the OTS in promoting organic products, aligning standards, exchanging technologies, and developing human capital.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of a joint communiqué reaffirming commitment to advancing organic agriculture among Turkic states.
