Kazakhstan imposes temporary ban on import of jet fuel from Russia
Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway company in Kazakhstan, has banned the supply of jet fuel from Russia to Kazakhstan. The ban entered into force on June 14, 2023, and will last until July 14, 2023, Turanews.kz reports.
The ban was requested by the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, which is concerned about the risk of overstocking fuel. The ministry will lift the ban when the situation improves.
The ban is a temporary suspension of the carriage of goods by rail due to technical reasons.
The ministry also reported on the presence of over 420 tank cars, amounting to 25,000 tons, near Almaty, and over 100 cars, equivalent to 6,000 tons, near Astana. The current weather conditions in both locations create a fire and explosion hazardous situation on the railroad, as the atmospheric temperatures consistently hover between 20°C and 30°C.
