Kazakhstan Has No Concerns Regarding Territorial Claims from Russia, Says President Tokayev

Kazakhstan will follow the sanctions regime against Russia and has no concerns regarding territorial claims from Russia, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said after negotiations with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, TuraNews.kz reports.

“As for the border between Kazakhstan and Russia, it was at one time delimited, and largely demarcated, approved and ratified by the parliaments of the two countries. Therefore, we do not have any concerns regarding territorial claims on the part of Russia. We maintain regular friendly contacts on a bilateral basis. And also within the framework of the corresponding integration associations,” Tokayev said.

The Kazakh president’s words also underscore the importance of diplomatic and political stability in the region and the desire of both countries to strengthen cooperation instead of confrontation. Such confirmations of friendly relations between Kazakhstan and Russia can contribute to peace and stability in the region and world politics in general.

Tokayev’s statement is also a reminder that Kazakhstan is an independent and sovereign country that is not beholden to Russia. Kazakhstan has its own interests and priorities, and it will not hesitate to stand up for them.
