Kazakhstan Government Implements Extensive Aid Program for Flood Victims
Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozimbaev stated during a Government meeting chaired by the Prime Minister that efforts to mitigate the impact of floods and offer extensive aid to affected citizens are ongoing in the country.
The state is actively supporting flood victims through a comprehensive aid package aimed at recovery and rebuilding efforts across affected regions in Kazakhstan. Here are the key measures being implemented:
Housing Assistance
Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozimbaev reported during a Government meeting chaired by the Prime Minister that efforts are ongoing to provide housing solutions for flood victims:
- Return to Homes: Over 67,000 people have returned to their homes, with ongoing support provided to 3,664 residents still in evacuation centers.
- Housing Damages: Approximately 12,086 residential houses and 7,380 country houses, crucial shelters for flood victims, were flooded. Evaluation of 18,228 dwellings and 15,651 objects has been completed.
- Housing Restoration: Based on assessments, 9,306 houses are earmarked for repair, while 8,190 houses are deemed irreparable. Plans include purchasing 5,714 houses and apartments from the secondary market and constructing 2,576 houses through a model project. A total of 257 billion tenge is allocated for housing restoration efforts.
- Progress: Currently, 6,176 families have received 40 billion tenge for housing repair, and 3,414 families have been relocated to new houses or apartments.
New Housing Construction
- Ongoing Projects: Construction of 2,500 new houses has commenced across West Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Atyrau, Aktobe, Akmola, North Kazakhstan, and Pavlodar regions to provide new residences for affected citizens.
Financial Aid
- One-time Payments: 33,321 families have received one-time payments equivalent to 100 Minimum Calculation Indices (MCI), totaling over 12 billion tenge. Distribution has been completed in several regions, with payments continuing in others.
- Additional Compensation: 15,355 families have received compensation for lost necessities, amounting to 7.6 billion tenge.
Livestock Compensation and Business Support
- Livestock Aid: The state has allocated over 2.8 billion tenge for compensating the losses of livestock.
- Business Support: Regional commissions have approved 124 applications from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), amounting to more than 833 million tenge. A total of 797 SMEs were affected, with damages estimated at 24.1 billion tenge. Evaluation and estimate work is ongoing to assess further needs.
Infrastructure Restoration
- Infrastructure Needs: The restoration of highways, electricity supply networks, and social facilities requires 48.7 billion tenge. Projects worth 39.8 billion tenge have been prepared, with decisions pending as documentation reaches the Ministry of Finance.
The Government of Kazakhstan continues to prioritize the recovery efforts, aiming to alleviate the hardships faced by flood-affected communities and restore normalcy in the affected regions.
