Kazakhstan considering importing jet fuel from Turkmenistan
Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of importing jet fuel from Turkmenistan, according to Vice Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov, TuraNews.kz reports citing Inform.kz.
Akkenzhenov said that aviation fuel from Turkmenistan has already been tested in Kazakhstan and that the ministry is waiting for the laboratory’s conclusion before making a decision on whether to import it on a regular basis.
“According to Turkmenistan, they, like us, are an oil country. They have processing facilities. They generally export their products through the Caspian Sea. At the beginning of this year, we considered the option of testing aviation fuel produced in Turkmenistan. For this purpose, appropriate volumes of aviation kerosene were imported. He was sent directly to the laboratory. We are waiting for the conclusion of this laboratory,” Akkenzhenov said.
He added that the import of gasoline and fuel from Turkmenistan is not considered due to the high transportation costs.
“There is such a thing as supply economy. The cost of the product also includes transportation. If we consider the transport distance, then with Turkmenistan it will be much more expensive from other countries compared to the Russian Federation. The answer is obvious. This is our common border – the longest between Russia and Kazakhstan,” Akkenzhenov explained.
However, Akkenzhenov assured that Kazakhstan is open to considering any possibilities for diversifying its fuel imports.
