Kazakhstan has submitted a bid to host the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2026-2027, the Football Federation of Kazakhstan (KFF) announced on August 16, Turanews.kz reports.
The KFF said that the tournament would be held in two cities, Almaty and Shymkent. The deadline for submitting bids is September 2023.
“We have submitted an application to host the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2026-2027 and proposed to organize the tournament in two cities – Almaty and Shymkent,” said KFF President Adlet Barmenkulov.
“We expect the reply in September of this year.” he added.
Kazakhstan has hosted a number of major football tournaments in recent years, including the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup and the 2022 AFC Asian Cup. The country is also bidding to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The UEFA European Under-19 Championship is a biennial tournament for under-19 national teams in Europe. The current champions are France, who won the tournament in 2022.
The 2026-2027 tournament will be the 24th edition of the competition. The hosts will be announced in September 2023.
