Kazakhstan and Türkiye Discuss Security Cooperation in the Caspian Sea

Delegations from Kazakhstan and Türkiye convened to address mutual cooperation concerning security in the Caspian Sea, resulting in an agreement between the parties.

Minister Genghis Arinov of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations met with a Turkish delegation led by Deputy Minister of National Defense Bilal Durdaly in Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital.

The discussions, also attended by Behchet Karatash, CEO of Military Factory and Shipyard Operation Inc. (ASFAT), a division of the Ministry of National Defense, focused on assessing cooperation in maritime security and ship maintenance, as well as emergency response resources.

Highlighting Türkiye’s significance as a crucial and dependable partner, Arinov emphasized the potential for cooperation in shipbuilding to enhance bilateral relations. He also mentioned plans to establish a specialized emergency rescue service capable of swiftly responding to incidents in Kazakhstan’s waters within the Caspian Sea.

Arinov stressed that this initiative would facilitate prompt operations both at sea and on land, including ensuring security in the Caspian Sea, managing oil spills, addressing ship accidents and fires, and conducting rescue missions.

During the meeting, the Turkish delegation showcased modern technologies suitable for the envisioned service’s tasks, leading to an agreement on mutual cooperation in securing the Caspian Sea.
