Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Reviews Development Plan for Kosshy
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has reviewed the development plan for Kosshy, a city located near the capital.
The plan outlines the construction of 1.5 million square meters of housing and 45 social facilities as part of the city’s overall development strategy. Akim Gaidar Kasenov reported that since Kosshy was designated a city of regional significance in 2021, its population has grown to 110,000.
In the past two years, three new schools have been built, with another nearing completion. Over the next few years, three more schools and two kindergartens will be constructed under the national “Comfortable School” project.
Kosshy currently has one state polyclinic and two clinics operating under a public-private partnership. Additionally, a privately funded multidisciplinary hospital is under construction, featuring 300 beds, a 1,000-visit-per-day polyclinic, and specialized departments for oncology, neurology, and maternity care. This facility will serve both Kosshy residents and those from nearby areas.
In May of this year, the Alan sports and fitness complex opened, offering a swimming pool, gym, and sports halls for both children and adults.
The President was also briefed on the upcoming public cultural and sports center, set to open next year. This center will include an interactive education department, gym, tennis court, football field, basketball and volleyball courts, a cinema, exhibition hall, library, lecture hall, and an amphitheater.
President Tokayev praised the rapid development of Kosshy and instructed the regional akim to focus on modernizing the city’s engineering and utilities infrastructure, as well as connecting the settlement to the gas pipeline.
