Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sergio Mattarella Hold Talks in Astana

A ceremonial welcome was held at Akorda for Italian President Sergio Mattarella, who arrived in Astana on an official visit.

The heads of state introduced the members of their delegations. The commander of the honor guard company delivered a report, and the national anthems of both countries were played.

The two leaders then held talks. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that Mattarella’s visit would give a strong impetus to strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Italy. He stressed that the visit reaffirmed the deep bonds of friendship and long-standing partnership between the two countries.

“Mr. President, I am very pleased to welcome you as our guest. This is your first official visit to Kazakhstan, and it is of great importance, as it will undoubtedly open a new chapter in our relations. Kazakhstan and Italy are closely cooperating, and we have warm feelings towards your country. Mutual trade is steadily developing, and strong economic ties bind us. We are achieving significant results across various sectors. As President, I am ready to personally contribute to further strengthening our relations,” said Tokayev.

For his part, Sergio Mattarella thanked President Tokayev for the hospitality and underlined the importance of further enhancing bilateral ties.

“I am delighted to be here and meet with you after your visit to Rome in January last year. As you noted, our relations are excellent and continue to grow stronger, becoming ever more intensive and fruitful. Year by year, our economic, trade, and cultural cooperation is expanding. We also see growing interaction between our universities. Thank you for your friendship,” the Italian President said.

The two leaders also exchanged views on pressing bilateral, regional, and international issues. Tokayev conveyed his greetings and best wishes to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
