Kamala Harris Officially Enters the 2024 Presidential Race

Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, has announced her intention to run for president. She is set to officially declare her candidacy, following President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election.

According to NBC News, Harris accepted Biden’s endorsement and will pursue the Democratic nomination for the upcoming November election.

“I am honored to receive the president’s support, and I intend to win,” Harris stated. “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our country—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme agenda, Project 2025.”

Kamala Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. Her father was a Jamaican academic at Stanford University, and her mother, the daughter of an Indian diplomat, was a cancer researcher. Harris has a younger sister, Maya, who is a state politician. In 2014, she married lawyer Douglas Emhoff.

Harris graduated from Howard University in 1986 and UC Hastings College of the Law in 1989. She began her legal career in Alameda County, California, and was elected as the District Attorney of San Francisco in 2003. From 2011 to 2017, she served as the Attorney General of California.

In 2017, Harris became the second African-American woman and the first South Asian-American woman to serve in the U.S. Senate. She initially sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 but withdrew before the primaries. Joe Biden later selected her as his running mate, and together, they won the 2020 election.

Since becoming Vice President in 2021, Harris has addressed issues such as immigration at the southern border, voting rights, and abortion. She has been a prominent figure on the campaign trail, warning that Donald Trump’s re-election could further restrict women’s access to abortion.
