Istanbul Police Seize €3.6 Million in Counterfeit Euros

Turkish police in Istanbul conducted a major operation resulting in the seizure of €3.6 million in counterfeit euros.

The Istanbul Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit launched an investigation after receiving information about counterfeit foreign currency entering the market. To stop the illegal activities, Turkish law enforcement carried out a series of targeted operations.

During the operation, authorities confiscated not only counterfeit euros but also forged checks issued under the names of major banks and specialized printing equipment used to produce counterfeit money.

According to investigators, the criminal group employed high-quality templates, enabling them to produce counterfeit bills nearly identical to the originals.

Several suspects were detained as part of the operation. Investigators revealed that the group’s activities extended beyond Türkiye, affecting other countries as well.

In addition, authorities seized counterfeit banknotes and printing materials worth €3.6 million that were ready for market distribution.
