Istanbul Airport to Run on Solar Power: World’s First
Istanbul International Airport is set to become the world's inaugural airport powered entirely by solar energy.
According to the airport operator IGA, all energy required to operate the air hub will be generated from a solar power plant (SPP) under construction in the Eskisehir province.
The forthcoming solar power plant in Eskisehir will boast a capacity of 199.32 MW, with an estimated annual production of 340 million kWh. The commissioning of this solar facility, valued at 212 million euros, is slated for later this year.
IGA emphasized that transitioning to solar energy consumption will significantly reduce atmospheric emissions, with ambitions to achieve zero emissions by 2050.
