According to Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, citing a new EUROCONTROL report released on September 12, the airport handles an average of 1,624 flights per day, surpassing other major European hubs.
“These figures once again confirm Türkiye’s importance as an international aviation hub. Istanbul Airport not only maintains its leadership in Europe but also strengthens its global standing,” Uraloğlu said.
Overall, Türkiye ranks sixth among European countries in air traffic, with around 4,200 daily flights, outperforming Greece, the Netherlands, and Poland.
EUROCONTROL underlined that the data highlights the steady recovery and growth of aviation, particularly in countries with rapidly developing transport infrastructure.
Since its opening in 2018, Istanbul Airport has consistently expanded its flight network and passenger volume. By the end of 2024, it had served over 320 million travelers, making it one of the world’s largest airports.
