Iran Strikes Israel With Missiles, Conflict Intensifies

Iran has launched a new wave of missile strikes against Israel, escalating tensions in the region, according to Iranian state media.

BBC reports that Iran’s UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, described the attacks as “proportional defense operations” carried out within the country’s right to self-defense. The targets, he claimed, were strictly military and linked to Israel’s continued aggression.

“In response to Israel’s deliberate provocations, Iran has taken additional measures aimed at specific infrastructure deemed legitimate military targets,” Iravani wrote to the UN Security Council.

He accused Israel of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted that Israel’s response focused on Iran’s nuclear and missile sites, accusing Tehran of deliberately harming civilians.

Iran’s Health Ministry reported at least 224 deaths since Israel began its strikes on Friday. Israeli authorities said 24 people had been killed by Iranian attacks in the same timeframe.

Iran also warned it may withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty if Israeli strikes persist.

U.S. President Donald Trump pledged efforts to achieve peace between the two nations.
