Iran Rejects US Accusations of Plot to Kill Trump
Iran has dismissed US claims that it was involved in a conspiracy to assassinate Donald Trump.
According to Iran’s mission to the UN, these accusations are baseless and malicious. The mission also stated that Iran seeks legal justice for the killing of General Qassem Soleimani, who died in a US airstrike in January 2020.
On July 16, CNN reported that the US had received intelligence about an Iranian plot to kill Trump, leading to increased security measures by the Secret Service. However, there is no evidence linking Iran to Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man who allegedly shot at Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
Iran has maintained that Trump, who ordered the assassination of Soleimani, should be held accountable through legal means. The assassination attempt on Trump left him with a minor injury, while one rally participant died and two others were wounded.
