IPA CIS International Observers Set to Monitor Azerbaijan Elections

International observers from of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States Interparliamentary Assembly) are set to commence short-term monitoring of the upcoming elections in Azerbaijan.

IPA of CIS (The Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of Commonwealth of Independent States Interparliamentary Assembly) outlined its plans, indicating that meetings with candidates’ election headquarters, the Central Election Commission leadership, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Constitutional Court, and the Milli Majlis are scheduled for February 4-6.

The observer group comprises deputies and senators from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Leading the observer mission is Zhakip Asanov, the Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan. Dmitry Kobitsky, the Secretary-General of the IPA CIS Council, will also be part of the group.

As the extraordinary presidential elections in Azerbaijan approach on February 7, international observers from the IPA CIS will visit polling stations in Baku and various regions of Azerbaijan. Monitoring efforts will extend to foreign sites as well.

According to the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, a total of 750 international observers from 88 countries and 61 organizations have officially joined the election monitoring process. The observer mission aims to ensure transparency and fairness during the crucial electoral process in Azerbaijan.
