International Forum in Turkestan Boosts Economic Ties among Turkic States

The ongoing TIF’23 international forum, themed “Turkestan: tourism, investment, economy,” in Turkestan has seen a series of meetings, including the Union of Turkic Chamber of Commerce and Industry business forum. Darkhan Satybaldy, the Akim of the region, shared insights into the deepening economic bonds among the fraternal countries. “Welcome to the holy city of Turkestan, the spiritual capital of the Turkic world! Three weeks ago, the tenth summit of the Organization of Turkic States was held in Astana, addressing crucial matters related to strengthening peace and relations among fraternal countries,” said Satybaldy. He expressed confidence that the current forum would significantly drive the initiatives discussed at the summit, highlighting ongoing important projects with Turkey, Uzbekistan, and other nations in the Turkestan region.

During the business forum, Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, emphasized the forum’s role in fortifying economic and investment ties among member states. Recognizing the historical significance of Turkestan, he voiced optimism about securing substantial agreements through the international forum.

Various speakers, including representatives from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and the Atameken Chamber of Entrepreneurs, contributed to the discussions.

Turkestan stands out as one of Kazakhstan’s leading regions in terms of investment growth rates. Since its formation five years ago, the region has attracted $6.3 billion in investments. The trade and economic relations among countries within the Organization of Turkic States are also on an upward trajectory, with the Turkestan region witnessing a trade turnover of $400 million with these countries in 2022.

At the behest of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a special economic zone called “TURAN” was established in Turkestan to further enhance relations among the fraternal countries. This platform is specifically designed to facilitate joint investment projects, aligning with the president’s strategic initiatives.
