An international ethnosport festival is being held for the first time in Uzbekistan. The three-day event is taking place in the Khorezm region, and it is expected to attract over 1,900 athletes from 63 countries, Turanews.kz reports.
The festival is organized by the World Ethnosport Confederation, UNESCO, TURKSOY, and the governments of its member states. It is being held under the motto of “Bound by heritage, united by ethnosport.”
The festival will feature a variety of events, including an international tournament in belt wrestling, Uzbek martial art, world championships in mas-wrestling, weight lifting, an international open archery tournament, competitions in national wrestling, triathlon, bird hunting, equestrian sports, various exhibitions, and a pilaf championship. There will also be a meeting of the members of the Executive Committee of the World Ethnosport Confederation.
A press conference was held in Khiva with the participation of the Minister of Youth Policy and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Adham Ikramov, the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farid Gaibov and the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin.
The ministers said that the festival is designed to popularize national sports games of different nations, develop tourism and strengthen relationships between countries.
