On November 16, 2023, a significant international conference titled “From the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Future of the Turkic World” was jointly organized by the Turkic Academy, L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University, and the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Kazakhstan. The event, coinciding with Türkiye’s centennial celebrations, brought together esteemed figures, scholars, and diplomats to discuss the historical milestone and the evolving landscape of the Turkic world, TuraNews.kz reports.
Distinguished attendees at the opening ceremony included President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mustafa Kapucu, and Vice-Rector for Science, Commercialization, and Internationalization of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Zhanna Kurmangaliyeva. Welcoming speeches were also delivered by Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ontalap Onalbekuly, Professor İlber Ortaylı of the Turkish Historical Society, and Uli Schamiloglu, Head of the Department of Kazakh Language and Turkic Studies at Nazarbayev University.
Shahin Mustafayev emphasized the significance of Türkiye’s 100th anniversary as a pivotal historical moment, highlighting the growing geopolitical and geoeconomic importance of the Turkic World. He expressed hopes for continued cooperation among Turkic nations, envisioning the region as a zone of peace and prosperity amid global instability.
Ambassador Mustafa Kapucu acknowledged the success of the X summit of the Organization of Turkic States on November 3, 2023, in Astana, considering it a turning point in Turkic cooperation. He expressed gratitude to the Turkic Academy and L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University for organizing the conference.
Ambassador-at-Large Ontalap Onalbekuly extended congratulations to Türkiye on its centennial, recognizing Türkiye’s achievements as a source of pride for the entire Turkic World.
Renowned guest İlber Ortaylı highlighted the importance of deepening cultural ties among Turkic peoples and fostering cultural cooperation to strengthen integration processes.
As part of the conference, the Turkic Academy presented the Kazakh-language edition of Afet İnan’s book, “Recalling Ataturk,” a collection of memories and thoughts about Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of Türkiye. Professor İlber Ortaylı also delivered a lecture on Turkic history.
The conference concluded with Professor İlber Ortaylı being honored with a special medal from the Turkic Academy for his contributions to strengthening Turkic World cooperation. Additionally, he was bestowed the title of honorary professor by L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University.
