Informal Meeting of Turkic States’ Foreign Ministers Held in New York
On September 25, an informal meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) took place in New York, coinciding with the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. The meeting was chaired by Murat Nurtleu, Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In his opening remarks, Nurtleu highlighted the significance of the gathering, which comes just before the 15th anniversary of the OTS’s establishment. He emphasized the achievements of the organization and underscored the crucial role that Turkic integration now plays on the global stage.
Kazakhstan, as the OTS’s chair for 2023-2024, has successfully organized over 80 events under the theme “TURKTIME,” including the 5th World Nomad Games, Nurtleu noted.
The meeting’s agenda focused on strengthening cooperation within the OTS, preparations for the 11th Summit set for November 2024 in Bishkek, and enhancing ties with international organizations such as the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
In conclusion, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration within the OTS and stressed the importance of unity and solidarity among Turkic nations.
Background: The OTS was established on October 3, 2009, when the presidents of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye signed the Nakhchivan Agreement, forming what is now known as the Organization of Turkic States.
