Individual Suspected of Promoting Terrorism Arrested in Southern Kazakhstan
He is under suspicion for promoting terrorism via social media platforms.
A resident of Shymkent city has been apprehended by Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee (KNB) on suspicion of disseminating terrorist ideologies via social media platforms. The arrest, which took place on February 28, was conducted in collaboration with the prosecutor’s office and with the assistance of local law enforcement agencies.
According to ongoing investigations, the detained individual had previously resided in a foreign country where they purportedly became involved in radical doctrines.
In a statement released on February 29, the KNB disclosed that a pre-trial inquiry has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which addresses the offense of “Propaganda of terrorism or public calls to commit an act of terrorism.”
