The death toll from a train collision in the Indian state of Odisha has reached 288 people, more than 1,000 people were injured, Turanews.kz reports.
According to local news, it was informed about 261 dead and more than 900 injured.
The accident occurred on the evening of June 2, 220 kilometers from Calcutta, near the city of Balasore. The media reports different versions of what happened. According to one of them, several cars of an express train bound for Chennai derailed and crashed into a freight train that was on parallel tracks.
Hindustan Times reports that between 10 and 12 carriages of an express train fell onto the opposite track, colliding with another train whose carriages had already crashed into the freight train.
