The 3rd International Film and Music Festival was organized by the Municipality of Izmir and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the General Directorate of Cinema, İZFAŞ, İZELMAN, and the Intercultural Creativity Association, Turanews.kz reports.
The festival opened with a ceremony at which the Mayor of Izmir, Tunc Soyer, noted the growing popularity of the event. “We are pleased that the festival takes place in our region and expands its audience every year,” said the mayor.
Festival director Vedji Sayar said that the program included 100 feature films and 20 short films.
Hungarian film director István Szabó, winner of an Academy Award and the festival’s Honorary Award, was unable to attend the ceremony due to health problems.
Representatives of institutions and organizations that support the festival were also awarded commemorative prizes.
The event, which includes film screenings, discussion panels, and concerts, will conclude with a ceremony on June 21.
