II. TURKSOY Theater Festival Concludes in Ashgabat

From October 18-20, Ashgabat hosted the II TURKSOY Theater Festival. The event, part of the "Cultural Capital of the Turkic World ANEV-2024," concluded on October 20.

The closing ceremony took place at the Main Academic Drama Theater named after Büyüka Saparmurat Türkmenbaşy, starting with a speech by the Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan, Atageldy Shamyradov. Following the speech, the festival’s awards ceremony commenced. Special TURKSOY awards, diplomas, and participation certificates were presented to theaters from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, and Turkmenistan.

The State Theater of Sivas represented Türkiye in the “Preservation of Folklore Traditions in Theater Arts” category, while Uzbekistan’s Khorezm Musical Drama Theater was recognized for “Preserving Traditions in Theater Arts.” Kazakhstan’s Mangystau Regional Musical Drama Theater named after N. Zhantyurin was acknowledged for “New Searches in Theater,” and both the Issyk-Kul Drama Theater of Kyrgyzstan and the State Musical Drama Theater named after Magtymguly of Turkmenistan received special TURKSOY awards for “Best Performance.” The awards were presented by Minister of Culture Atageldy Shamyradov, TURKSOY Secretary-General Sultan Raev, and notable figures from Turkmenistan’s theater arts.

Over the three-day festival held in three different theaters in Ashgabat, theater enthusiasts enjoyed eight performances, five of which were part of the competition. Certificates and honorary diplomas from TURKSOY were awarded to the Main Academic Drama Theater named after Saparmurat Türkmenbaşy, the National Drama Theater named after Alp Arslan, and the State Musical Drama Theater of Lebap Region named after S. Seydi for participating in the guest section of the festival from Turkmenistan.

During the closing ceremony, Nurkanat Zhakypbay, a state artist of Kazakhstan and artistic director of the “Astana Jastar” theater, received a special TURKSOY award from Secretary-General Sultan Raev for his contributions to the theater arts of the Turkic world.
