János Hóvári, a Hungarian Turkologist and diplomat, passed away on August 7, 2023, Turanews.kz reports.
Hóvári was the Executive Director of the Hungarian Representation of the Organization of the Turkish States (OTS), and he had a long and distinguished career in Hungarian diplomacy.
Hóvári was born in Budapest in 1953. He studied Turkology at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, and he later received a PhD in the same subject from the University of Ankara in Turkey. Hóvári’s research interests included the history and culture of the Turkic peoples, and he published several books and articles on these topics.
Hóvári began his diplomatic career in 1986. He served as the Hungarian Ambassador to Turkey from 2004 to 2009, and he was the Hungarian Ambassador to Kazakhstan from 2013 to 2017. In his role as Executive Director of the Hungarian Representation of the Organization of the Turkish States, Hóvári worked to promote cooperation between Hungary and the Turkish States.
Hóvári was a dedicated diplomat and a respected scholar. He will be remembered for his contributions to Turcology and his promotion of cooperation between Hungary and the Turkish States.
OTS Secretary General Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliyev issued a condolence message for his death:
“It is with great sadness that we learned of the untimely death of the Executive Director of the Hungarian Representation of the Organization of the Turkish States, Mr. János Hóvári.
On behalf of the Organization of Turkish States and myself, I convey my condolences to the family of Mr. János Hóvári, the world of Turcology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, I wish God’s mercy on him and patience for his grieving family.
Hóvári, who devoted his life to Turcology and gained a respected place in Hungarian diplomacy with his outstanding services as Ambassador, made great contributions to the development of comprehensive cooperation between Hungary and the Turkish States throughout his life.
His devoted efforts and professionalism to bring Hungary and the Hungarian people closer to the brotherly Turkish States and their peoples have been a remarkable success.
His valuable contributions will not be forgotten and his memory will live on in our hearts forever. Ambassador Kubanichbek Omuraliyev TDT General Secretary”
