Hundreds of Earthquakes Shake Türkiye-Greece Border Region

Over the past 10 days, a staggering 938 earthquakes have been recorded in the Aegean Sea, near the border between Türkiye and Greece.

While the majority of these tremors were minor, measuring less than 4 on the Richter scale, some were felt in the city of Izmir, according to Qazaqstan TV.

Experts warn that the possibility of a major earthquake following these tremors cannot be ruled out.

Furthermore, these seismic activities could potentially awaken dormant volcanoes in the area. The region is known to have over 20 extinct volcanoes, the largest of which is located on the island of Santorini. Should this volcano erupt, the risk of a tsunami in the region would be significantly high.

A similar series of tremors in 1925 was followed by a volcanic eruption in the same area, causing a major disaster. Seismologists are currently studying the earthquake epicenters to determine the potential risks to Türkiye.
