Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Georgia’s Marneuli and Bolnisi Regions

Severe rainfall has led to significant flooding in Georgia's Marneuli and Bolnisi regions, which border Armenia, causing extensive damage to agricultural land and homes. The Mtavari Arkhi TV channel reported that the downpour, which persisted throughout the night, caused the Algeti, Debed, and Khrami rivers to overflow.

The flooding resulted in water entering the basements of houses and inundating a food and clothing market in Marneuli. Both urban and rural infrastructure sustained damage. In response, local authorities have formed a commission to assess the extent of the damage.

Additionally, the village of Tserovani, located 15 minutes north of Tbilisi, also experienced flooding. The city of Tetritskaro is facing similar issues, with residents concerned about the potential overflow of the Algeti reservoir.

The heavy rains also affected Armenia’s Lori region, where the Debed and Aghstev rivers overflowed. This led to the flooding of numerous homes and the blockage of the interstate road to Georgia. In response, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan established an operational headquarters to manage the crisis.
