Hakan Fidan’s Visit to Syria: A New Era of Hope
Türkiye is prepared to contribute to the establishment of a safe, free, and prosperous Syria that will bolster regional stability, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated during a meeting with the head of Syria’s new administration in Damascus.
Fidan emphasized that Syria must achieve stability, fully eradicate the threat of terrorism, strengthen its economy, and create conditions conducive to the return of Syrian refugees. To achieve these goals, it is essential to restore Syria’s territorial integrity, dismantle the armed groups of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, and eliminate other radical organizations. Additionally, an inclusive governance system must be established, ensuring representation for different religious and ethnic groups.
The Turkish Foreign Minister highlighted that Türkiye stands ready to provide maximum assistance in these efforts.
“Syria must rise on its own. Türkiye is ready to share its experience in restoring state institutions. We are prepared to mobilize both our state institutions and private sector companies for this purpose. Lifting sanctions on Syria is a fundamental step toward ensuring stability and security,” Fidan said.
Fidan also noted that the Turkish people, state, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have consistently supported their Syrian counterparts. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s readiness to provide comprehensive assistance to the Syrian people and support various areas that meet their needs.
“The main priority for Syria is achieving stability and security, eliminating terrorism, achieving national unity, fostering economic development, and creating conditions that allow Syrians, who have been displaced for years, to return to their homeland,” he stated.
