Group Preparing Mass Unrest Detained in Kyrgyzstan

Law enforcement authorities in Kyrgyzstan have identified and detained a criminal group made up of former politicians, members of organized crime groups, and civil activists who were allegedly planning illegal protest actions. This was reported by the Chuy Regional Department of Internal Affairs.

A criminal case has been launched under Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic — “Mass unrest.”

During a special operation, an active member of the group, S.F., born in 1978 and a resident of Toktogul District in Jalal-Abad Region, was detained while attempting to destroy evidence.

Another suspect, M.O., born in 1998 and a native of Kara-Suu District in Osh Region, was also taken into custody. Authorities say he was involved in financial transactions to launder funds. Investigations revealed that he helped produce and distribute provocative video materials, in collaboration with activist Tilekmat Kurenov and others, using fake social media accounts.

Search operations were conducted in the Jalal-Abad and Osh regions as well as in the city of Osh. Material evidence was confiscated.

Suspects allegedly involved in planning and organizing mass protests have been placed in a temporary detention facility.
