Government Committed to Economic Patriotism – Olzhas Bektenov
The government is firmly committed to the principle of economic patriotism, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov stated during a recent Government meeting.
“A key initiative is the creation of a unified register of domestic producers. It’s crucial that this register only includes genuine enterprises with the capability, capacity, and plans for future development. Those listed will receive priority state support, but they must also meet obligations to modernize production, boost labor productivity and competitiveness, and raise wages,” Bektenov explained.
He noted that the activities of these enterprises will be monitored through digital screening, overseen by tax and customs services, labor inspectorates, and other relevant institutions. “This online screening process is designed to minimize corruption risks, with overall coordination managed by the Ministry of Industry. The government’s commitment to economic patriotism means unwavering support for domestic producers. This is a responsibility for every mayor and minister, and it must be put into practice, not just discussed,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Bektenov also highlighted the need to accelerate import substitution efforts, particularly through offtake contracts, which will secure long-term orders for domestic companies, allowing them to expand and develop new productions. He mentioned that a list of goods to be exclusively purchased from local producers has been established within state procurement frameworks. Furthermore, major oil and gas projects have already signed contracts with domestic producers totaling $240 million, and this work will continue, Bektenov concluded.
