German Police Comment on Murder of Kazakh Citizen Aigul Sailybaeva

German police have confirmed that Aigul Sailybaeva, a citizen of Kazakhstan, was the victim of a violent crime. The announcement follows an investigation into her death.

The South Hesse Police Headquarters responded to an inquiry from a Kazinform correspondent regarding Sailybaeva’s murder. They stated, “After discovering a body in the Lake Erlach area on the afternoon of Sunday, June 16, the prosecutor’s office and the police almost certainly believe it to be the body of a 40-year-old woman who had been missing since June 4, 2024.”

The investigation has determined that Sailybaeva was the victim of a violent crime, though the motive remains unknown.

To further the investigation, the South Hesse Police Headquarters has established the “Erlach” Homicide Investigation Unit, involving more than 35 officers. Additional searches will be conducted in the area where the body was found, as investigators do not believe it to be the crime scene.

In addition to investigating the murder, police are searching for a 49-year-old woman related to Sailybaeva, believed to be her mother-in-law, who is also missing. The connection between the two disappearances and the murder is unclear and remains under investigation.

The Erlach Homicide Department has set up a dedicated phone line at 06151/969 53200 for the public to provide information, including anonymous tips. Investigators are seeking witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious since June 4 that could be linked to the crime.

No further details are being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation. The Darmstadt prosecutor’s office is handling press inquiries, according to the South Hesse police.

Aigul Sailybaeva, a former judge, was found murdered in Germany. Her mother and brother have traveled from Kazakhstan following the news, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
