The historic achievement came as the Georgian national football team triumphed over Greece in the final qualifying match for the 2024 European Championship. The decisive encounter unfolded on Tuesday, March 26, in Tbilisi. Despite a goalless draw in regular and added time, Georgia emerged victorious in the penalty shootout, securing a 4-2 win.
With this historic qualification, Georgia enters the group stage of the Euro competition for the first time ever. The Georgian team will face Türkiye, Portugal, and the Czech Republic in the group stage. The much-anticipated tournament is scheduled to take place from June 14 to July 14 in Germany.
This milestone for Georgian football marks a significant moment in the country’s sporting history, while Greece, a former European Championship winner in 2004, faced disappointment as they failed to secure qualification for the tournament, not having competed since 2012.
