Gas, Electricity, and Fuel Production Declines in Uzbekistan
In February 2025, gas production in Uzbekistan's large enterprises fell to 3.5 billion cubic meters, marking a 5.6% decrease (208.8 million cubic meters) compared to February 2024 (3.7 billion cubic meters), and a 9% decline compared to February 2023 (3.85 billion cubic meters).

Compared to February 2022 (4.23 billion cubic meters), the decline is 17.2%, according to Kazinform, referencing Uzbekistan’s state agency.
From the start of the year (January-February), gas production totaled 7.4 billion cubic meters, a 4.3% decrease (328.6 million cubic meters) compared to the same period last year. Compared to 2019’s corresponding period (10 billion cubic meters), this represents a drop of 2.68 billion cubic meters.
The decline in gas production has been ongoing for several years. It is important to note that 70-80% of Uzbekistan’s electricity is generated by burning gas.
Electricity – The total electricity generation in January and February decreased by 3.4% (497.2 million kWh), from 14.56 billion kWh to 14.06 billion kWh, compared to the same period last year.
In February, production decreased by 2.5% compared to the same month last year, reaching 6.8 billion kWh.
Most of the decline in electricity production occurred in large energy enterprises (which primarily use gas, as well as coal and hydropower), where electricity production dropped to 11.1 billion kWh, 17.3% or 2.3 billion kWh less than the same period last year.
The shortfall was compensated by smaller enterprises (including solar and wind power plants), which generated 2.9 billion kWh, 2.7 times more than in January-February 2024. Their share of total production increased to 20.7%.
Oil – In February, oil production decreased to 50.7 thousand tons (a 12.6% decrease, or 7.3 thousand tons, compared to February 2024). This is the lowest figure in recent years.
For the first two months, oil production totaled 105.8 thousand tons, a 10.7% decrease (12.7 thousand tons) compared to the same period last year.
Gasoline – In February, 90.4 thousand tons of gasoline were produced, which is a 22.4% decline (26.1 thousand tons) compared to February 2024 (116.5 thousand tons). The decrease is also visible in the two-month comparison—189.4 thousand tons (-21.4%, or 77.8 thousand tons).
Diesel – Diesel production sharply declined to 41.3 thousand tons in February (down 43.3% compared to February 2024). Compared to January-February 2024, it decreased by 39.5%, or 74.5 thousand tons.
