Former Prosecutor Detained in Kyrgyzstan Over Alleged Coup Plot
A former senior prosecutor from the Internal Security and Service Investigations Department of Kyrgyzstan’s Prosecutor General's Office has been detained in Bishkek on charges related to a violent attempt to seize power.
The Pervomaisky District Court in Bishkek identified the detainee as A.U.A., accusing him of organizing mass riots, plotting a violent power grab, and forming an organized group. The court ordered his detention in pretrial detention center No. 1 until January 9, 2025.
Authorities previously announced the arrest of a group allegedly preparing large-scale unrest and seeking to destabilize the socio-political situation during local council elections scheduled for November 17, 2024.
