According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs on January 29, a 33-year-old dual citizen of Serbia and Turkey was arrested at Almaty Airport following a request from Interpol’s National Central Bureau.
“The individual was wanted by Turkish law enforcement authorities. Investigations revealed that in 2021, the suspect, along with others, organized the international maritime transportation of cocaine to Istanbul. The arrest was the result of close international cooperation between law enforcement agencies of both countries,” the police reported.
The suspect now faces extradition proceedings as authorities coordinate further legal actions with their Turkish counterparts.
