The FLiRT coronavirus variant has been found in Russia, but it is not considered highly dangerous. The dominant strain remains omicron, according to Rospotrebnadzor’s press service, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“Ongoing monitoring allows us to identify even single new genovariants. Throughout the entire monitoring period, 178 cases of the new FLiRT variants were identified, including KP.2 (three cases), KP.1.1 (five cases), and KS.1 (170 cases). None of these variants are more dangerous than the others,” stated the department.
The press service also clarified that, as in the rest of the world, the omicron variant continues to be the predominant strain.
The symptoms of FLiRT variants are similar to those of omicron, including fever, cough, sore throat, weakness, headache, muscle pain, and loss of taste or smell.
