First Snow of the Season Falls in Torugart

The first snow of the season fell in Torugart, Kyrgyzstan, on August 26, Turanews.kz reports citing Kaktus Media.

A video of the falling snow was shared by eyewitnesses who were near the Kyrgyz-Chinese border.

The Kyrgyz Hydrometeorological Service (Kyrgyzhydromet) has warned residents of the republic about a sharp change in the weather on the afternoon of August 27 and August 28-29. Snow has also been reported in the highlands of Kyrgyzstan.

Torugart is a mountain pass located in the Tian Shan mountains. It is the highest border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and China, and is an important trade route between the two countries. The pass is usually closed from November to April due to heavy snow.

The early snowfall is a sign of the changing climate in Kyrgyzstan. The country has been experiencing more extreme weather events in recent years, including heat waves, droughts, and floods.

Kyrgyzhydromet has advised residents to be prepared for the upcoming weather changes and to take precautions to stay safe.
