First Harry Potter Book Cover Illustration Sells for $1.9 Million at Auction
The cover illustration for the first Harry Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," has been sold at Sotheby's in New York for $1.9 million, making it the most expensive item ever auctioned related to the wizard franchise. This sale was reported by Kommersant, citing MarketWatch.
Thomas Taylor, then a 23-year-old artist, created the first visual representation of J.K. Rowling’s novel in 1997. It took him just two days to complete the drawing.
The auction lasted about 10 minutes, with the final bid reaching three times the expected amount. The identity of the buyer remains undisclosed by the auction house.
