Euronews to Open Regional Office in Astana
On July 16, Kazakhstan's Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balaeva, met with Euronews Chairman Pedro Vargas David to discuss the opening of a regional office in Astana.
During this meeting, the first memorandum of intent for cooperation between Kazakhstan and Euronews was signed, TuraNews.kz reports.
Balaeva highlighted that establishing a Euronews office will provide comprehensive media coverage and enhance awareness of Kazakhstan’s economic, political, social, and cultural development among the channel’s international audience.
The new office will also create more opportunities for Kazakh journalists.
The parties discussed organizing training sessions and master classes to improve the skills of local TV channel employees, positively impacting the professional development of Kazakh media representatives.
Pedro Vargas David noted the swift transition from discussion to signing the memorandum, reflecting both parties’ genuine interest in collaboration. He emphasized the importance of supporting domestic journalists and indicated plans to not only bring European journalists to Kazakhstan but also to scout for local talent.
Minister Balaeva affirmed Kazakhstan’s potential to build a strong and professional editorial team.
Asel Kozhakova, the project’s official representative, stated, “Today is a historic day. The opening of the Euronews office in Kazakhstan marks a significant milestone for the country and enhances our presence in the international media landscape.”
Moving forward, both parties plan to engage in active cooperation, including joint projects aimed at developing the media sector and strengthening international information exchange.
