At Haliç University observing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to prioritizing the fight against violence targeting women, TuraNews.kz reports citing Anadolu Agency.
President Erdogan declared that combating violence against women is a key policy focus for Türkiye, integral to the broader effort to enhance the greatness and resilience of families. Addressing concerns about attacks on the institution of the family, he clarified that such actions are unrelated to the protection of women’s rights.
He highlighted ongoing efforts in Türkiye to continually update legislation addressing violence against children and women. President Erdogan expressed confidence in the newly established Coordination Council for Combating Violence against Women, expecting it to undertake activities befitting the centenary of the Republic.
The president underscored the government’s commitment to protecting abused women through various measures, including women’s shelters, anti-violence and monitoring centers, and social services operational across all 81 Turkish provinces.
Additionally, President Erdogan stressed the significance of solidarity across society in the collective struggle against violence. “Together, we will construct a Türkiye free from violence, opposing it in unity with men, women, youth, and the elderly. The centenary of Türkiye will be the era of women,” concluded the president, emphasizing the transformative role women will play in shaping the nation’s future as it approaches its centennial milestone.
