Erdogan and Ash-Sharaa Discuss Syria’s Reconstruction

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Syria’s interim President Ahmed Ash-Sharaa in Ankara to discuss Syria’s economic recovery, military reconstruction, and security issues.

During a joint press conference following the meeting, Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye’s policy towards Syria has always been based on preserving its territorial integrity and unity. He pledged Türkiye’s support in rebuilding Syria’s devastated cities and noted that as economic recovery progresses, more refugees will voluntarily return to their homeland.

“It is crucial for the Arab and Islamic world to provide the necessary material and moral support to the new administration and the Syrian people in this process,” Erdogan stated.

Ash-Sharaa expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s assistance and extended an invitation to Erdogan to visit Syria in the near future.

Ankara, which actively supported opposition groups against Bashar al-Assad during Syria’s 13-year civil war, is now considered one of the key allies of the new Syrian administration.

This marks Ash-Sharaa’s second official foreign visit. Two days earlier, he traveled to Riyadh, where he met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
