Earthquake Strikes Northeast Kazakhstan

An earthquake occurred in northeast Kazakhstan on May 27, 2024, with its epicenter situated 986 kilometers northeast of Almaty. The event was recorded by the seismic stations network of NNTsSN and I LLP of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The earthquake, registered at 11:12:34 Almaty time (06:12:34 GMT), had an energy class of 9.6 and a magnitude of 4.4 MPV. The epicenter’s coordinates were 50.70° N and 83.81° E, with a depth of 5 kilometers.

Despite the earthquake’s energy and magnitude, there were no reports of perceptibility or impact on the territory of Kazakhstan, according to the MSK-64 scale.
