Earthquake Recorded 323 km from Almaty

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) reported that the National Seismological Stations Network recorded an earthquake on March 28 at 03:42 Astana time. The epicenter was located 323 km southwest of Almaty.

The estimated intensity was:

  • Merki — 5.0 magnitude

  • Qulan — 4.0 magnitude

  • Shu — 2.0 magnitude

  • Töle Bi, Sarykemer, Taraz, Qorday, Asa, Moyınqum — 2.0 magnitude

No casualties or damage have been reported. An operational headquarters has been set up to monitor the situation. Deputy Minister Batyrbek Abdishev held a meeting with regional units.

— The situation remains stable, and emergency teams are on standby. There is no threat, and hazardous industrial sites in the Zhambyl region have been inspected, — the MES stated.
