Earthquake felt in Azerbaijan
Several weak earthquakes were recorded in Azerbaijan on Monday, Turanews.kz reports.
According to the Republican Seismological Service Center under the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the strongest earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.0, was recorded at 10:27 local time, 9 kilometers west of the Jalilabad station in the Jalilabad district. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 18 kilometers.
The earthquake was not felt by residents.
Gurban Yetirmishli, General Director of the Republican Seismological Service Center of ANAS, said that weak tremors occur in Azerbaijan every day, and this is a natural process. Most recorded earthquakes are not felt.
“The earthquakes that occurred in Azerbaijan on Monday were of a weak magnitude and did not pose any danger to the population,” Yetirmishli said. “We continue to monitor the seismic situation in the republic and will inform the public if there is any change.”
The Republican Seismological Service Center of ANAS is responsible for monitoring seismic activity in Azerbaijan and issuing warnings to the public in the event of an earthquake.
