Dimash Kudaibergen Encourages Parents to Protect Children from Online Dangers
In anticipation of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, Kazakh singer and Goodwill Ambassador for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Dimash Kudaibergen, has issued a warning to parents about the dangers of online child trafficking.
Kudaibergen emphasized that, in today’s digital age, criminals can target children through social networks and gaming platforms. He addressed parents, teachers, guardians, and all adults responsible for protecting children, highlighting that the threat of child trafficking has evolved beyond just targeting children from dysfunctional families or those living on the streets.
“Many people now spend significant time online,” Kudaibergen noted. “Criminals are exploiting social media and gaming platforms to recruit children.”
He offered advice on how adults can protect children from these dangers. “It’s important to talk to your children about the risks of interacting with strangers online. Discuss the importance of not sharing photos or videos with strangers, as traffickers can use these to control victims by threatening to distribute them,” Kudaibergen advised.
He stressed the importance of building trust with children so they feel comfortable seeking help or asking questions. “Building trust is vital so that your child can always come to you with a question or for support. Take care of yourself and your loved ones,” he concluded.
