Dangerous Virus Detected in Russian Tomato Imports

The State Inspectorate of the Ministry of Agriculture's Agro-Industrial Complex has confirmed the discovery of a dangerous virus in tomatoes imported from Russia.

According to a statement, during a follow-up inspection at the destination site with state plant quarantine inspectors from the Ural Territorial Inspectorate of the Regional Inspectorate of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the West Kazakhstan region, a quarantine pest – the Tomato Brown Wrinkle Virus (ToBRFV) – was identified in 0.5 tons of tomato products originating from the Russian Federation.

“As a result of these findings, an administrative protocol was prepared and forwarded to the court. Pursuant to paragraph 1) of part 2 of Article 400 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, the court has imposed a fine. Quarantined tomato products currently in storage are slated for destruction as per the court’s decision,” the statement read.
