Deputy Mufti Abdulla Salimov conveyed the decision in a video message on the mufti of Dagestan’s Telegram channel, citing concerns raised by the Ministry of National Policy and Religious Affairs. The ban follows a fatwa issued by the relevant department on July 2.
The regional mufti’s office plans to provide further clarification on specific circumstances under which local bans on niqabs may be deemed permissible.
