Cultural Capital of the Turkic World Transferred to Anev, Turkmenistan

In Shusha city, the symbolic city of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, the prestigious title of “Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” has been officially transferred to Anev, Turkmenistan. The event was attended by key figures, including Azerbaijani Minister of Culture Adil Kerimli, Turkmenistan Minister of Culture Atageldi Shamuradov, Azerbaijan Presidential Shusha Special Representative Aydın Kerimov, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş, and representatives from TURKSOY member countries.

Minister Karimli, addressing the gathering, highlighted the numerous events hosted in Shusha throughout the year, underscoring their role in showcasing the rich cultural heritage of both Azerbaijan and the broader Turkish world. Emphasizing the ongoing efforts in the reconstruction and revitalization of areas liberated from occupation, Karimli noted, “The historical and cultural structures of Shusha are also being restored, bringing cultural life back to Shusha.”

Minister Shamuradov from Turkmenistan expressed optimism about the ample opportunities for cultural collaboration among Turkic states. He commended the activities undertaken by TURKSOY, emphasizing their role in fostering unity within the Turkic world.

Aydın Kerimov, the Azerbaijani Presidential Shusha Special Representative, provided insights into the reconstruction and restoration initiatives taking place in Shusha. He reported the successful restoration of 16 historical monuments in the city over the past three years.

During the event, Azerbaijani Minister of Culture Kerimli officially handed over the role of Coordinator of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY to Turkmenistan Minister of Culture Shamuradov. Additionally, Aydın Kerimov symbolically presented the title of “Cultural Capital” to Rovshan Cumayev, the Mayor of Anev, Turkmenistan, signifying the official transfer of this esteemed designation.

The ceremony was further enriched by a vibrant concert program featuring artists from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, celebrating the cultural diversity and collaboration within the Turkic world.
